Leather care
Our leather is vegetable-tanned and finished by hand. It darkens and softens with use — a little care keeps it doing that for years.
Everyday
Wipe with a dry, soft cotton cloth after use to lift dust from the grain and stitching.
Keep the bag off wet surfaces and away from long, direct sunlight.
If it gets wet
Pat it dry with a cloth and let it dry away from heat — never a hairdryer, radiator or direct sun, which stiffens and cracks leather. Stuff it lightly with paper so it holds its shape while drying.
Conditioning
Every three to four months, work a small amount of colourless leather conditioner or beeswax cream in with a cloth, in circles, then buff. Test on the base of the bag first.
Embroidery and mirror work
Never scrub embroidered panels. Dab a spot with a barely damp cloth and let it air dry. Avoid soaps, alcohol and solvents entirely — they lift the dye from the thread.
Storage
Store in the cotton dust bag it arrives in, stuffed lightly, upright, in a cupboard with some air movement. Plastic traps moisture and grows mould on leather.
